WHATNew Mexico is divided into multiple tourism regions. The central region - the “Heart of New Mexico” - is the largest and most populous in the state and features many popular destinations.

WHYWhen XtraMark assumed webmaster responsibilities in 2003 the goal was to redesign and improve the site by incorporating elements from the region’s brochure, therefore readily promoting various day trip and tourist destinations with key information and links to those area’s specific web sites. Because the site has been heavily search engine optimized and the content is keyword focused the traffic has steadily increased (from 2000 unique visitors a month in 2003 to now over 5000 a month). This increase has occurred at the same time that print advertising has decreased from an annual expenditure of $40k to $10k. “Put some heart into your next vacation – travel to the Heart of New Mexico” is the marketing message aimed at both in-and-out-of-state visitors. As a hub and launching area to various tourist destinations throughout the region the site showcases the wide variety of appealing Heart of New Mexico locations along with lodging options. |

HOWThe site uses stunning visuals in rotating header flash content highlighting the region’s primary destinations. Flash technology was also built into the site at the bottom of each page to promote various day trips. XtraMark also included a popular and regularly updated community events calendar. A bilingual language option makes the site content appealing for Spanish speaking visitors. |
